The Parco delle Colline di Brescia was established in 2000, after an administrative process that lasted 5 years. The project, which began with the request to the Lombardy Region by the municipality of Collebeato for recognition as a PLIS (Parco Locale di Interesse Sovracomunale – Local Park of Supra-municipal Interest), was implemented with the participation of all the other municipalities in the area, which began working to organise and safeguard this vital area for the territory.
Consisting of a set of diverse natural environments, the area has important traditions linked to the utilisation and cultivation of resources, which include timber and other products of the forest. Nevertheless, the forest has now incorporated the old walls, terraces and structures that characterised hillside agriculture.
