The Torbiere del Sebino, a Nature Reserve of the Lombardy Region since 1983, extends for about 360 hectares to south of Lake Iseo, and features expanses of water and typical marsh vegetation. From the edge of Franciacorta, the hills slope down to Lake Iseo, creating a natural oasis of international interest, which can be visited along wooden walkways and footbridges.

In Provaglio d’Iseo, from the courtyard of the monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa, this panorama can be admired in its entirety. The area developed gradually between the end of the 1700s and the middle of the 1900s due to the extraction of peat, which was used as fuel. The peat bogs are a natural habitat for various bird populations and for dense beds of reeds and bulrushes. The bogs are sparsely dotted with trees and the ponds are made even more beautiful by the water lilies, in bloom between May and September.
