Festival Franciacorta

HISTORY

From the seventies, in Franciacorta, wine producers began to organise wine tasting events to allow visitors to try wines from the area. One of the preferred locations was the Convento dell’Annunciata (Convent of the Annunciation) on Mount Orfano. Later, this type of event underwent a transformation into the more structured festivals that today take place in the area, the first of which was held from 22 to 25 September 2000. On this occasion, during the grape harvest, the wineries remained open for 4 days for visits and tasting events. Events were also held in an old manor house to enjoy Franciacorta wines at a tasting table, which was open to the public. This format essentially remained the same until 2009, the year in which the event in the residence was abolished so that the local area could be promoted by taking visitors directly to the winery and increasing the number of wineries open during the weekend.

The Festival Franciacorta today

The Festival del Franciacorta in Cantina (Franciacorta Winery Festival) is today an unmissable event that takes place in mid September, which is dedicated to lovers of all things beautiful who over two weekends have the opportunity to experience and enjoy the places involved in creating Franciacorta wine.

On these days, the wineries open their doors to welcome visitors with interesting offers and a rich array of initiatives dedicated to fun and discovering more about local food, wine and culture.

An event suitable for all: from wine lovers, who can participate in vertical events and themed tasting sessions, to lovers of good food, who can enjoy the delicious dishes from local restaurant owners and chefs. Ample opportunity is given to sporty types, who can venture among the vineyards and hills, trekking, hiking or cycling, as well as to families who can have fun taking part in various initiatives and enjoying picnics in nature. There is no better occasion that to stroll among the many places of historical interest, castles, monasteries and museums that are scattered along the Franciacorta Wine Route where art lovers are spoilt for choice with fascinating villages, abbeys and villas set among the countryside. Given the success achieved in the area, the Festival in Cantina was soon joined by itinerant Franciacorta Festivals which, year after year, bring the tasting tables of Franciacorta producers to different cities in Italy, such as Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna, Taormina, Naples, Capri and many others.

Trade Fairs

Vinitaly

Vinitaly is an international wine and spirits fair, which has been held in Verona each year since 1967. It is an event that allows the wineries at the fair to present to the public their best wines, which reveal the commitment and passion that distinguish their product. Franciacorta wines have been at the fair since its very first edition, confirming their excellence on the international wine scene.

Prowein

Prowein is an important trade fair, one of the most significant wine events at a national and international level, which is held in Düsseldorf in March every year. Consorzio Franciacorta’s institutional experience began in 2003 in Germany, one of the principal markets of interest for exports. The event takes place over three days during which various types of Franciacorta wine can be tasted with their producers and with sommeliers of the Deutschland Sommelier Association (DE.S.A.), who describe the notes that distinguish each wine, the expression of a land steeped in history and passion.
