Orto Botanico delle Conifere (Conifer Botanical Garden)
The Conifer Botanical Garden can be reached by a pleasant 20-minute walk from the hamlet of Valle to north of the town. Due to its educational nature, it helps to bring the visitor closer to the world of plants and to stimulate their respect for nature. It carries out conservation activities for endangered plants and projects for the reintroduction of endangered species into the wild. In the Botanic Garden there are seven families of conifers (Pinaceae, Taxodiaceae, Cupressaceae, Taxaceae, Cephalotaxaceae, Araucariaceae, Podocarpaceae), 82 species are present and each is represented by at least two specimens
Near Borgo del Maglio, south of the town, lies the Orto Botanico delle Querce (Botanical Garden of the Oaks), which has more than 100 species and hopes to have 150 within the next decade. This heritage of inestimable botanical value will be entrusted to future generations who will certainly appreciate the efforts made by men full of hope. This Botanical Garden aims not only to educate current students, but also to satisfy biologists and botanists of the future as they will be able to study the intraspecific introgression of oaks from all over the planet. Recently, the Municipality of Ome and the Ome Botanical Gardens Association drew up a memorandum of understanding with the University of Brescia.
