There is a sparrow (passero in Italian) on Passirano’s coat of arms, a very recent interpretation of the town’s name.
Passirano is the site of the largest and best conserved castle in Franciacorta. Standing alone in the countryside south of the town, it is visible from a long way away, with its tall pebble walls topped by Ghibelline battlements added after it was built, probably in the 10th century, to give shelter to local people during invasions.
