The restaurant la Dama Bianca was created in the old stables of Bornato Castle in the centre of Franciacorta, a stone’s throw from Lake Iseo and Valcamonica.
Here history and tradition meet modern cooking techniques and passion for traditional Brescian cuisine.
According to an old legend, in the castle of Bornato in Franciacorta, lived the young Bianca, apparently a commoner.
Legend has it that in 1438, when Antonio Martinengo, a Brescian condottiere allied with the Venetians, arrived in Bornato, Bianca met a young lancer, Adalberto, also a commoner.
The two crossed their gazes. It is the most classic version of love at first sight: love blossoms, happiness blossoms.
But it lasts little, too little. Not far away, the battle rages, the cannons thunder and the blades crash. Antonio Martinengo wins the battle, but Adalberto is killed. He never returns, while Bianca waits for him worriedly.
According to tradition, the lady still waits for her beloved in the castle and every full moon night she opens and closes the window shutters, turns the lights on and off and often appears on the highest tower waiting for her man.
