Franciacorta shone as the star of summer in Capri thanks to its partnership with Nomad, for whom it has served as official sparkling wine for the past two years. From 4th to 7th July, the Chiostro del Priore (Priore Cloister) at the Certosa di San Giacomo was transformed into the Franciacorta Lounge, where each evening guests could taste different styles and labels in an enchanting setting.
Built in the second half of the 14th century by Giacomo Arcucci – Great Chamberlain of Queen Joanna I of Anjou – the Certosa di San Giacomo is the most significant example of architecture on the island of Capri. The building’s change of use was partly realised when a museum dedicated to the German painter Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach was created; this was concluded in 2022 with the first edition of Nomad Capri, a travelling trade fair founded by Nicholas Bellavalance-Lecompte and Giorgio Pace in 2017.
Gallery owners, designers and collectors experienced Franciacorta wines paired with high quality food at two special and exclusive dinners. The first, on Thursday 4th July at Monzù, a Michelin-starred restaurant within the Punta Tragara Hotel, featured a menu that honoured Capri’s traditions. The second, on Friday 5th July was held at ‘O Vico, Enzo Coccia’s recently opened pizzeria, with pizzas specially created by the master pizza maker to enhance the pairings.
Nomad intends to become a new way of combining art and design by creating real experiences in which locations – strictly unconventional – are not empty, white spaces, but become an integral part of the exhibition. This innovative format challenges the conventions of traditional trade fairs, which are often marked by sterile spaces and artificial lighting, doing so also for the benefit of newcomers to collecting. Instead of wandering disorientated through identical corridors filled with overpriced artefacts, visitors are welcomed into homely settings lit by natural light, where they are free to engage with gallery owners and their works in a warm yet exclusive atmosphere.
But the Franciacorta’s summer does not end here. Franciacorta Week, an established event, highly anticipated by locals and Franciacorta wine enthusiasts, recently concluded in Versilia with great success. During this week dedicated to wine, participants had the opportunity to explore the nuances and secrets of this prestigious appellation. The event offered a wide range of events, tastings, and themed dinners, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of Franciacorta. Local venues demonstrated remarkable commitment to organising high-quality events, offering unforgettable experiences to participants.
On 15th July, again in Versilia, the Versilia Gourmet Franciacorta awards will be presented. This unmissable event features the main protagonists in the Versilia restaurant industry and beyond.
