Treccani celebrating Franciacorta, an area to explore with all five senses in the midst of nature and good wine
A travel diary, a passionate personal narrative experienced in the first person and then immortalised by the expert pen of Armando Castagno.
Journey through Franciacorta is a tale of a journey through the places and lands of Franciacorta enhanced by novel photographs taken specially for the book by Andrea Federici. It is a journey punctuated by buildings, evocative spaces, personalities and landscapes in discovery of a cultural heritage and a structured but compact collectivity marked out by its shared wine vocation.
Armando Castagno – taster, designer and director of Associazione Italiana Sommelier courses – accompanies readers on a pilgrimage through the 19 Franciacorta towns, starting at Paratico and continuing through Capriolo, Adro, Erbusco, Cologne, Coccaglio, Rovato, Cazzago San Martino, Corte Franca, Iseo, Provaglio d’Iseo, Passirano, Paderno Franciacorta, Monticelli Brusati, Ome, Rodengo Saiano, Gussago and Cellatica to Brescia.
In an incisive and engaging style the author succeeds in transmitting the essence of Franciacorta, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate not only its wines but also the stories and experiences which make it special.
“All things considered it was this which was behind the writing of this book: to populate a Franciacorta free of eulogistic filters with people, landscapes and ephemeral events, to share, that is, a person-centred vision and add to it the fleeting dimension as the key to its precariousness”, says Armando Castagno.
Nineteen stages in an experience which testifies to the unique features of the area in both environmental and human-entrepreneurial terms: sustainable, profitable agriculture, biodiversity, propensity for innovation and a future-orientation from the starting point of a rediscovery of the past and ethics combined with respect.
In the book Castagno recounts his experiences and observations, exploring not only the vineyards and wine estates which have made this region famous but also its history, culture and traditions. Readers are taken through enchanting landscapes and historic villages and churches, meeting up with local people and paying tribute to a land marked out for its beauty and authenticity.
“Meeting Armando on his journey through Franciacorta was a truly wonderful experience and reading his travel diary was moving and educational! As I was born and raised in Erbusco I got the opportunity to explore attractive places and contexts which I had never seen before. My sincere thanks go to Massimo Bray and Istituto Treccani for publishing a book which pays tribute to Franciacorta and recognises its value”, says Silvano Brescianini, President of the Franciacorta Consortium.
The book will be available online from December 6th and constitutes an open invitation to all those interested in exploring this exceptionally attractive and tradition-packed corner of Italy.
