The history of the winery began in 1973 with Giovanni Fratus, who, after working in Switzerland and Germany, returned to his native Franciacorta to establish Riccafana and begin the long process of restoring the vineyards and 15th century farmhouse, at that time in ruins. The Riccafana vineyards extend over 12 hectares of land and have an annual production of 70,000 bottles.
Even from the name chosen, it is clear that the link with the land would be one of the cornerstones of the future company: Riccafana is in fact the toponym of the area where the winery is located. Giovanni has always sought excellence and perfection, understanding the true potential of the area. From Giovanni Fratus to his son Riccardo, the winery’s philosophy has remained unchanged, and in 2002, in order to achieve continuous improvement, the decision was taken to convert the entire grape production to organic farming and to expand the historic cellar. This made the best use of the vineyards, which are situated in an excellent position on the southern slopes of Monte Orfano.
All the wines produced by the winery are organic wines (label indication, as required by the certification body).
