The Montorfano De Filippo winery was founded in 1913 by the grandfather of the current owner and oenologist Domenico De Filippo and extends over 5 hectares, which are cultivated according to integrated viticulture methods. The company’s trademark depicts the portrait of Luca Marenzio, the famous musician and acclaimed composer of Renaissance madrigals, who was born in Coccaglio in 1553 on the site where the winery is now based. As a tribute to him, Montorfano De Filippo christened its Franciacorta of excellence “Franciacorta Satèn Luca Marenzio”.
The old wine cellars for vinification and ageing of the wines are located at the foot of Monte Orfano, in the ancient village of Coccaglio, a medieval fortification built on the ruins of an ancient Roman castrum.
